Will you send me a shipping label or can I use my own shipping provider to send in a NanoDrop instrument for servicing?

Accepted Answer

Upon receipt of confirmation of payment method, we will provide you a FedEx return shipping label and shipping instructions. Alternatively, we will waive the shipping cost if you decide to use your own carrier.

Question 2

Do I need a special shipping box for my NanoDrop instrument to send for servicing? If so, would you supply the shipping box and what is the cost?

Accepted Answer

The NanoDrop 2000/2000c, NanoDrop 8000, NanoDrop Eight, NanoDrop Lite, NanoDrop Lite Plus, and NanoDrop One/OneC instruments all need to be shipped in their original shipping box and packing foam. If you do not have those materials, we will send you a box and packing foam at no cost. The NanoDrop 3300 instrument can be shipped in any box you may have available.

Does the NanoDrop instrument service cost include part replacements?

Accepted Answer

The cost for NanoDrop instrument service does not include any parts. If a part replacement is needed, we will contact you to obtain your authorization to replace the part.

How do I pay for service for my NanoDrop instrument?

Accepted Answer

You can pay for NanoDrop instrument service with a purchase order or credit card. We accept Master Card, Visa, or American Express.

What is the turnaround time for servicing NanoDrop instruments in the United States and Canada?

Accepted Answer

The turnaround time for servicing NanoDrop instruments in the United States is 48 to 72 hours. The turnaround time in Canada is approximately 2 days longer, depending upon the time spent in Customs in either direction. FedEx weather-related delays can also extend the turnaround time.

Question 9

How do I clean/store my Triple Quadrupole mass spectrometry instruments after analysis?

Accepted Answer

For short periods (less than 24 hr) the system can just be put into standby. However, it is good practice to flush the system with 50:50 solvent/water (where the solvent is either methanol or acetonitrile) to remove buffers or additives and stop microbial growth.

For longer periods, flush the LC system with 50:50 solvent/water. Then flush with 100% solvent. Put the system into standby.

How do I perform mass calibration on Triple Quadrupole mass spectrometry instruments and how often should I do it?

The mass calibration should ideally be performed every 3 months and definitely performed at least every 6 months. Refer to the Instrument Manual (https://tools.thermofisher.com/content/sfs/manuals/TSQ-Series-Hardware.pdf) for detailed instructions on how to perform mass calibration.

How should I clean the Ion Transfer Tube on Triple Quadrupole mass spectrometry instruments?

Accepted Answer

The Ion Transfer Tube should be removed and sonicated in a 50:50 solution of methanol/water that contains 20% formic acid for 30 min. Rinse thoroughly with water. Then sonicate in methanol for 15 min. Dry with nitrogen gas.

The same procedure can be applied to the Ion Sweep Cone.

Question 12

How should I adjust my ion source position on Triple Quadrupole mass spectrometry instruments?

Accepted Answer

Perform loop injections of your analyte using isocractic elution through a short column at the flow rate and approximate mobile phase composition. Use a concentration where the signal to noise is approximately 10:1. Record the raw data file and integrate the peaks, comparing peak areas at different source positions (i.e., left and right, up and down, fore and aft). Ensure that the background noise is not increasing more than the peak area.

Note: The needle position on the Thermo Fisher Scientific TSQ Altis MS, TSQ Quantis MS, and TSQ Fortis MS instruments is set and should not be adjusted.
